3 Things To Consider When Choosing Wood Kitchen Cabinets

Blog

If you are remodeling your kitchen, finding the right cabinets is essential. Your cabinets will take a lot of real estate in your kitchen, meaning they have a significant impact on its appearance. The kitchen cabinetry also impacts the usability of your kitchen. Cabinets are a primary source of storage, and you want to make sure that you have enough room. There are various styles and materials of cabinets to consider, but wood is the cabinet material of choice for many homeowners. Here are three things to keep in mind when choosing wood cabinets.

Wood Species

When it comes to wood cabinetry, various wood species are available, including maple, pine, cherry, birch, oak, and hickory. Different finishes are also available. Shopping around and looking at various types of wood cabinets is the best way to find the option that will work best with your new kitchen. Another thing to consider is whether you want solid hardwood or wood veneer. Wood veneers are more popular and easier to find than solid hardwood. However, cabinets that are made entirely of wood are still available.

Budget

Another thing to keep in mind when choosing wood kitchen cabinets is how much you want to spend. Wood cabinets are available at various price points. If you have a strict budget, stock or semi-custom wood cabinets will be your best bet. Wood veneer is also less expensive than solid hardwood cabinetry. Custom cabinets are usually the most costly option. Wood kitchen cabinets range from as little as $80 per linear foot to upwards of $165 per linear foot.

Timeline

When it comes to a kitchen remodel, keeping to your timeline is essential. You will want to consider your timeline when you are searching for cabinetry. While stock wood cabinets are ready to install, semi-custom and custom options are not. If you are going with semi-custom or custom wood cabinets, you will need to account for fabrication time. It will likely be a few weeks before your cabinets are ready for installation. Choosing a specific type of cabinet can mean having to extend your renovation timeline if they are not ready within a particular timeframe.

If you are on the hunt for wood kitchen cabinets, there are a few things to consider. First, there are various wood species to choose from when it comes to cabinets. Next, set a budget before you start looking into your options. Finally, keep your timeline in mind. While stock cabinets may be available immediately, semi-custom and custom cabinets are not.

Choosing A Remodeling Theme

After I started focusing more seriously on making over my home, I realized that there were a few things I needed to do. For starters, I realized that I needed to go through and work with a professional to rework the space. We talked about things like workflow and the initial impression of the space, and it was great to hear someone else's opinion of what needed to happen. Within about six months, the entire area was completely finished, and I was really happy with how things turned out. This blog is all about choosing a remodeling theme when you are making over your home.
