Live In The City But Want A Farmhouse Kitchen? You Can Still Have One

Blog

If you like the look of a farmhouse kitchen and live in the city, you may not think you could have one. This is simply not true and there are many changes you can make in your kitchen to decorate it in this way. Below are some tips to help you get started so you can be proud of the kitchen you create.

Farmhouse Cabinets

You want to create a cozy and homey farmhouse kitchen. Because of this, white cabinets are common with frosted glass doors. If you want to put things in your cabinets on full display you can choose clear glass.

If you do not like the look of white, you can stain your cabinets. If you choose this, you need to make sure you give the cabinets a distressed look to make them work well in a farmhouse kitchen. This gives your kitchen a rustic feel, as the cabinets will appear much older. You can choose any color that you like. You will often see distressed greens and yellows in this type of kitchen.

You can choose custom made cabinets so you can get them exactly like you want them. For distressed cabinets choose wood that is unfinished.

Contact a cabinet shop in your area to see what they can offer you. Tell them the type of kitchen you are creating and they will have many suggestions.

Farmhouse Sink

If your kitchen has a traditional sink, you should remove it and install a farmhouse sink. Most traditional farmhouses have this type of sink.

A farmhouse sink is much larger and deeper than traditional sinks. This type of sink was created many years ago. It is because people did not have running water and had to get their water from a well by hand. Having a deeper sink allowed them to put much more water in it.

Materials used for farmhouse sinks include copper, stainless steel, granite, slate, soapstone, and acrylic.

You will often hear a farmhouse sink referred to as an apron sink. This is because an apron runs down where the cabinet would be. There can still be a cabinet it would just not be as tall. The sink is much lower and there is no countertop to bend over. This can make it much easier on your back if you are at the sink for long periods of time. You can choose a double bowl or a single bowl.

Choosing A Remodeling Theme

After I started focusing more seriously on making over my home, I realized that there were a few things I needed to do. For starters, I realized that I needed to go through and work with a professional to rework the space. We talked about things like workflow and the initial impression of the space, and it was great to hear someone else's opinion of what needed to happen. Within about six months, the entire area was completely finished, and I was really happy with how things turned out. This blog is all about choosing a remodeling theme when you are making over your home.
